“I was at work as normal and there was a jam in one of the machines. My hand was inside the machine when suddenly it just started running again and that was it, I lost 2 of my fingers.

The pain was just awful and there was blood everywhere. My fingers couldn’t be recovered and whilst I had surgery to try and sort them as best as possible, I was left with terrible pins and needles. The hand would start aching if I used it too much. I couldn’t grip properly either, so I was dropping things like my phone or cups of tea!

The mental strain was hard too, I just kept reliving the accident. I kept remembering the noise and the pain. It was all too much. I’ve never felt like that before. My wife noticed at home. It was like I was a different person. Returning to work was just not an option. I just couldn’t go back in there with all those machines running and they ended up letting me go.

Months were spent thinking about what I could do next.

I managed to start up on my own doing some courier work, but I wasn’t earning anywhere near as much as I did with my other job.
