Acknowledging Brain Awareness Week 14th-20th March 2022

As specialist lawyers we help clients who have unfortunately suffered brain injuries through medical negligence and personal injury we are therefore very happy to support Brain Awareness Week which is running 14 – 20 March 2022.

In our medical negligence team we have worked with a number of clients who have suffered a brain injury following the failure to treat infections involving the brain including Encephalitis and Meningitis.

Encephalitis is an inflammation of the brain which is caused by either an infection invading the brain (infectious encephalitis) or through the immune system attacking the brain in error (autoimmune encephalitis).  Encephalitis is a serious condition, and a prompt diagnosis is essential.

Meningitis is an infection of the protective membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord.  Meningitis is usually caused by a viral or bacterial infection.  Meningitis can be very serious and therefore treatment with antibiotics is normally commenced even before the diagnosis is confirmed.

With both encephalitis and meningitis quick treatment with appropriate medication is required as delays can lead to severe complications including acquired brain injuries.

We know from working with clients with such injuries that the effects can be wide ranging and long lasting. The impact can include serious disability, memory loss, speech and language problems and emotional changes. In some instances, without correct treatment these conditions can be fatal.

However, both conditions are easily treatable with appropriate action.  Unfortunately, this sometimes does not happen, and Attwaters Accidents are here to help when things do not go as they should.

Penny Fitzpatrick is a one of our specialist lawyers in our clinical negligence team and she has assisted clients in recovering multi-million pound awards of compensation for people with brain injuries, including those resulting from failure to treat infection,   helping them move forward with their lives.

If you are concerned about an injury as a result of an injury or medical negligence, please contact us and we would be happy to provide you with advice going forward.

Brain Awareness Week was founded by the Dana Alliance for Brain Initiatives (DABI) and the European Dana Alliance for the Brain (EDAB), and is coordinated by the Dana Foundation.
